The threats to our outstanding North Yorkshire countryside increase daily as the Branch is faced with more and more controversial planning applications.

Those refused applications are all too frequently appealed by the more determined developers. The lack of local plan in most of the county continues to cause concern and plans to be approved because of no identified and approved local plan.

CPRE North Yorkshire have spent the last nine months streamlining costs, working to create a more effective and dynamic group.

One initiative is to create a central fighting fund to ensure that we can respond effectively to contentious planning applications utilising professional expertise.

CPRE Hambleton and CPRE Craven both voted this week to return some of their reserves to the Branch to illustrate their commitment to this initiative.

The Branch will match fund any contribution from the districts to kick start the fighting fund.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England exists to promote the beauty, tranquillity and diversity of rural England by encouraging the sustainable use of land and other natural resources in town and country.
