STOP the Drop and Clean for the Queen

On St George's Day a few members of CPRE North Yorkshire's Craven District and the North Yorkshire Chair turned out to litter pick.

The event, organised by Bruce Macleod of Craven, was the third of its kind. Whilst those working to clean up their countryside donned hig viz flourescent jackets, members of the public avoided meeting their gaze - apparently it was assumed they were all on community service.  They were!  Serving the community! The group spent a few hours cleaning the land opposite the new environmentally friendly Keelham Farm Shop on the outskirts of Skipton.  Surprisingly, all those who attended had great fun and each admitted that whilst they were not looking forward to the job, they all enjoyed the feeling of doing something good! In the group we had a playright, a CEO and a film producer!

Whilst the stores - the Farm shop and Burger King are not responsible for the actions of their customers we feel they might try to provide more bins and perhaps try to persuade their customers to dispose of the containers with a little more ....care?  May be there is room for us to work with them? We also found a fishing rod and reel, numerous hub caps, road signs, builders signs, for sale signs and ....too many beer cans, bottles and half bottles of spirits.

CPRE are proactive, reactive and responsible!
