Living in rural North Yorkshire costs more - fact

Regional Y&H and CPRE NY chair interviewed by Ben Barnett of the Yorkshire Post.

We need to remember that the cost of property is not the only factor.  Living in rural England, especially North Yorkshire, is more expensive in other ways:

Cost of home heating, many have no access to piped gas.

Most homes are older and protected by designations such as listings and or conservation area or National Park restrictions which means specialist trades are required to maintain those properties within the restrictions.

No one living on a hill top in the Dales or the NYMNP is going to walk five miles to the local shop for provisions when the rain is blowing sideways.  We need cars to get about.

However, we do need affordable homes for local occupancy to encourage our young to stay here and young families to move here to work and contribute to the local economy.

We do not need second homes or mega trailer parks or enormous lodge home sites labelled as investment opportunities!
