Wetherby development - Leeds City Council objects

Thursday, 20 September 2018 05:37

Harrogate Council recommends approval, Leeds City Council objects strongly to a proposal at Harrogate Road, Stockheld near Wetherby!

CPRENorthYorkshire says think about it people.... it's about one thing and one thing only

does the harm outweigh the benefits?

On this one - we think it does!

Leed City Council, Town council, Parish Council, Residents and CPRENorthYorkshire object yet it is still being recommended for approval.

Now the interesting thing about this one is this:

Leeds City Council objected strongly stating that the application represents 'unsustainable development contiguous with Wetherby'

and case law shows that

“a decision-maker should give the views of statutory consultees ‘great’ or ‘considerable’ weight. A departure from those views requires ‘cogent or compelling reasons”       Ashdown Forest Economic Development v Wealden District Council (2014) EWHC 406 (Admin)

The site is within North Yorkshire but will impact on West Yorkshire which is why Leeds City Council are involved.

According to our research this is not, as oft quoted, green belt land but green field - agricultural land that provides a clear gap between settlements as well as providing food, creating a landscape and allowing that field of well being that comes along with the countryside.

CPRENorthYorkshire have now written to all planning committee members asking them to refuse this application.
