CPRENY Chair, guest speaker at recent Northallerton Rotary Group meeting

On the 8th of September, our Chair was honoured to be asked to be the "guest speaker" at the meeting of this worthwhile group in North Yorkshire.  Jules Marley delivered a What we do and Why we do it speech to a well attended lunch meeting (and enjoyed Roast beef and the trimmings!)

Q&A's are frequently quiet affairs however, on this occasion, the Q&A had to be brought to a close as it was in danger of taking up the entire afternoon.  We were given a cheque for our charity which was an added bonus!  The audience included one retired planner, one retired planning inspector and one retired authority member.  However, on this occasion we had the mike and there was no time limit!  It was our turn to speak out without cut off!  One interesting question was "what gives CPRE the right to speak out for countryside when planning committees are qualified to do so?"

Well, the answer is this:  We would like to work with more planning committees, more planners to ensure that our North Yorkshire landscape is  protected and enhanced for this generation and those of the future however, we can speak without the restrictions imposed on planning committees.  We question housing numbers, we question the planning system,  we   promote smart planning

PLAN MONITOR PROVIDE not predict and plan.  Apparently their speaker this week will be discussing plans for the former prison in Northallerton - should be interesting!
