Are you ready to count the stars?

CPRE’s Star Count 2019 is kicking off next week!

From Saturday 2 February until Saturday 23 February we’re asking supporters to count the number of stars they can see (with the naked eye) within the constellation of Orion, which we’ll use to create a new map to show the nation’s views of the night sky, and raise awareness of the issue of light pollution.

Find out how to take part at: www.cpre.org.uk/starcount

It would be fantastic if you could all take part and encourage your friends and family to do the same, especially parts of North Yorkshire are some of  the UK's 'dark' counties.  Please share your experiences and pictures with #StarCount2019.

and the results are......(super long pause)

Our first schools writing competition in 2018 was a great success!

Children are our future,  our work to protect and enhance this county is for this generation and the next and the next….

We had some rather special judges, suitably experienced and well-equipped to judge a competition about ‘Why I love North Yorkshire’!

We’ll be presenting the awards and certificates at CPRENorthYorkshire’s AGM in March and hope that all our winners can attend!

Champion….

Summer!

Our judges said:  "We loved Summer’s entry as we felt it captured what’s special to her about North Yorkshire and also the unique qualities of the area – creating a vivid picture."

Well done Summer!

Harrogate - Green Hammerton application

3000 dwellings at Green Hammerton - mixed use major application.

Our dedicated and hard working Planning Wardens in the City of York area alerted CPRENorthYorkshire trustees to application 2018/02687/OUTM, a hybrid application for up to 516 residential led mixed use development immediately adjacent to the Askham Bog site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).  The application site is 40.05 hectares located within the York Green Belt 14.78 hectares of the site is proposed for development.

The Inspector asked for further comments in relation to the recent EIP of the Craven District Council local Plan, in particular the Hellifield Flashes and Local Green Space.  CPRENorthYorkshire have responded, supporting the findings of local people, one of who is a former planning inspector!

We await the Inspector's decision on this controversial area .....

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council invited CPRENorthYorkshire to comment on the draft management plan for the Saltburn Conservation Area.

We commissioned One Voyage Limited to examine the proposal and work on a response from CRENorthYorkshire.  We are supportive of the Draft Management Plan!
