CPRE York and Selby rejects the need for a new town at Whinthorpe.

By 2030 the population of York is forecast to increase by 19,800, however, the City of York Local Plan Preferred Options Document proposes to build 22,000 houses.

The inflated dwellings target is significantly greater than the jobs and household projections in the Local Plan document. We maintain that continuing the key trends in population, jobs and housing since 2001 will produce more realistic forecasts for the future. A new town of 6000 houses at Whinthorpe on good agricultural quality Green Belt land is not justified and must be challenged. We are eagerly awaiting the next stage of the consultation process.
