Harrogate CPRE group campaign against an application to gain a Certificate of Lawful Use on a disused airfield.

A disused airfield in the Harrogate District has had an application for CLU (Certificate of Lawful Use) made on it by an applicant who is currently using buildings on the site for a workshop with drivers accommodation. Harrogate CPRE object to the application as the site has doubled in size over a period of two years and questions the motives of the applicant alongside the fact that the site has not been continually operational for the required number of years. Harrogate Borough Council's enforecement team failed to notice the caravans that are well concealed on the site and are believed to be occupied although there is no current agricultural use on the site any more. This therefore begs the question as to why is accommodation needed on site and would surely not be allowed should a planning application be sought.

The applicant has also littered the 200 acre site with scrap car parts and earth moving vehicles and seems to operate a Go Kart track and activity based operation on the same site. Harrogate CPRE are concerned that if this is left unchecked the site will become used for a variety of unsuitable acitivities,  become further degraded and will be an eyesore.
